A quartz watch makes a wonderful gift for anyone on your list. You will find they come in many different shapes and designs. There are quartz watches for both men and for women as well so you can get one for just about anybody. What is so fascinating about this type of watch is that they quartz is actually used to be able to keep it showing the right time. They were first introduced in the early 1970’s, and they were very expensive. Only the rich and impressive businessmen were able to wear them as a status of this new emerging trend.
As time went by quartz watches continued to be very popular. At the same time though the prices were drastically dropping. This made them much more affordable for anyone that wanted one. Still, they were costing about $500 each by the early 1980’s. The prices are less than half that today due to advances in technology. Almost all quartz watches feature a mechanical hand for the hour and the minute so they are less expensive to make. The original quartz watches from the 1970’s are worth a great deal of money today though.
You may not realize it but quartz is a very powerful resource for transmitting. It has been used in radios and computers for decades. It was a logical choice to use for watches as well due to the amount of it that was readily available. There is an abundance of quartz found all over the world so it isn’t too expensive to get your hands on. There are several different elements found inside of quartz that makes it viable for watches.
Quartz is mainly silicon dioxide so most solvents don’t affect it at all. What is fascinating about quartz though is that when it is compressed it offers a type of charge. This is what was originally used to power a quartz watch. Those made today use a crystal with a low frequency bar inserted into it. They are very reliable and long lasting. People have quartz watches that keep the time perfectly for years without any problems. You can purchase them at many different jewelry stores.
